| Oh, no! The GM can't make it and we have a small group? Guess, it's Rising Sun! Huzzah! |
Part of the secret, I attribute to the magic of once a week. There's something about that frequency that I just think makes groups gel better.
Also, consistency. Now, our group usually has a lot of last minute wrangling about where we will game. When we all lived in the same city, we had a nice rotation going for awhile, but as we've gotten more spread out with jobs and kids and such — location has gotten more fly by the pants.
Sure, this can be a little dicey *har har,* but it's also been fun as we try out new locations. See some favorites.
However, we have a set time. And the fact that we will game is not in question.
Where we will game is a question, but not if we will game. This is key!
Rarely, do we completely cancel. Sure, there are times when the GM can't make it or there aren't enough players to keep the campaign rolling, but in those cases those who can make it still get together for tabletops. A chance to get something new to table? Yay!
I guess it helps that we all like RPGs and tabletops, with similar tastes.
I also think Thursday night is just a great night for gaming. Over the years our group has tried other nights to accommodate schedules, but Thursday night is my favorite (especially if you are working a regular Mon.-Fri schedule). Something to look forward to at the end of the week. You can stay up a little later and still have a decent workday.
When does your game group meet? What works for you? What's your secret?
Appreciate! Celebrate! Game on!
